Pacquiao's autograph, Dream Match and fight vs Hatton

Manny Pacquiao, the reigning WBC Lightweight Champion, is known by the following nicknames: Pac-Man, The Mexicutioner, The Destroyer, People's Champ, and Pambansang Kamao ("National Fist"). The 29 year-old Filipino professional boxer - cum - actor - singer - politician - businessman - is expected to earn more than $20 million in the Dream Match with Oscar de la Hoya. For sure, he's gonna be $20 M wealthier in December, win or lose, in his most challenging fight. Based on their sports credentials and the media hype, Pacquiao and de la Hoya will certainly give their fans, supporters, spectators, investors and all a fight truly worth watching blow by blow, a match destined to surpass previous historical records (at the least, in terms of popularity).

This here is a photo / image of Manny Pacquiao's signature. I'm reposting a copy here for posterity. A few years ago, I managed to have him sign an autograph when my friends and I quietly approached him, shook hands with the Pambansang Kamao and posed for a few photos (I couldn't recall having been lucky enough for the pictorials), during off-time in one of the political sorties he went with as a celebrity endorser.

After Pacquiao retires from boxing in 2009, as news reports say he will, it was also reported that he will again run for public office in 2010.

next match:

the Pacman-Hatton fight

“Pambansang Kamao” Manny Pacquiao will be taking on “The British Hitman” Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas come May this year for a fight initially expected to gross $58.4 million.

Hatton may prove to be Pacquiao's most competitive opponent, as the Englishman promises to deliver powerful body blows that Pacquiao still has to prepare for. This time, some boxing observers say, Pacquiao will “get his ass whipped” by Hatton.

Hatton is seen as a powerful fighter at 140 lbs, who can deliver close range bombs fast and hard against Pacquiao, even at the smallest of opportunities. Pacquiao may need to come up with a new strategy, combining his speed and skills against Hatton.

Earlier confusions about the fight contract was resolved when the boxers finally agreed to a fair revenue sharing.

Top Rank's Bob Arum said this is a good deal since Hatton delivers a huge share from British fans. Pacquiao, earlier wanted a 60-40 deal but soon agreed to get about half of the pay-per-view (PPV) revenue. Arum also explained that Floyd Mayweather Jr. had no share of PPV income in Britain in his fight with Hatton in 2007.
